Abstract: The optimum homogenate extraction technique of total flavonoids from Paeonia ostii episperm was studied by orthogonal test. The optimum extraction conditions were obtained as follows: 80% ethanol, ratio of solvent to material 20∶1, two times homogenate, and each 4 min. Under this conditions, the content of flavonoids in P.ostii episperm was 52.19 mg·g-1. ABTS radical scavenging experiment showed that flavonoids from P.ostii episperm had significant effects, which was higher than BHT, but less than VC. In addition, we have realized the practical process of making waste into useful material.

Key words: peony episperm, flavonoids, ABTS radical, homogenate extraction
