Abstract: In the present thesis, the taxonomic hitory of the genus Torreya was reviewed.Based pn external morphological features and evidence from other aspects, thetaxonomy of Torreya was studied. Six species, two varieties and eleven cultivars were recognized in the genus Torreya. The present revision contains one new variety (T. grandis var. jiulongshanensis. one new combination (T. fargesii var. yvnnanensis)and sts new cultivars. The authors support the viewpoints that Torreya species should be separated into two sections according to the rumination of the albumenin the of nuts, and Torreya should be the most advanced genus in the family Taxaceae.
