Abstract: The scanning electron microscope observation was given for the achenes of Lactuca sativa, L.sativa var.angustata, L.sativa var.romana and L.sativa L.var.yemensis X.S.Shen et R.L.Lu which was reported as a new variety in this paper.The stem and leaves of the new variety are covered with white wax powder.Its vascular tissue is not developed very well.The stem is even from base to top.The structure of the leaf is isobilateral.The obovate-elliptic achene possesses sparsely 8-12 rhaphes, and part of them are disappear in the top of the achene.
