Abstract: The present paper describes the pollen morphology of 14 species of Epi medium from China. The pollen grains were all examined under LM and SEM. The pollen grains are 3-colpate, mainly subspheroidal, prolate, subpro-late in shape. The exine ornamentation under SEM can be divided into 3 types:striato-reticulate, reticulate and irregular-reticulate or punctitegilla-te type. The pollen characters and gross morphology in Epimedium are diss-cussed. Our conclusions are as follows:pollen information supports the view-point that the genus can be fallen into two subgenera according to rhizome and gross morphology. The exine ornamentation of pollen grains of Bre-vicrassirhizoma are all striato-reticulate and those of Tenuilongirhizoma are irregular-reticulate or punctitegillate and reticulate.
