Abstract: In this paper, the direct and indirect ordination of the present secondary vegetation on West Lake Mountains in Hngzhou has been analysed with the polar ordinatoin method and principal components analysis method according to the notes taken from 132 releves. The present vegetation canbeen divided into 2 Associations, 6 Subassociations, 8 Variants and 20 Subvariants with both methods just similiar to the results with the clustering analysis method. The ordination maps with both methods show obviously the secondary successional serise of vegetation from the secondary shrub-herbage to the maturer secondarv mixed forests and indicate the gradient of soil conditions from xerarch to mesophytization. They reflect that the main factors resulted in the distinguishing the secondary vegetation are the water and fertility of soil.
