Abstract: This paper presents the results of the phytoplankton investigation on Erlongshan Reservoir in Harbin in January, May, August and October 2000. A total of 46 genera and 55 species planktonic samples were observed. The majority of them are Green Algae and Bacillaroiphyta. The average number of plants per liter in water is 4.38×106. Chlorophyta is 46.98% and Bacillaroiphyta is 44.74%. The dominant genera and species are Merismopedia elegans, Cyclotella sp, Melosira granulata, Synedra sp, Ankistrodesmus sp, Coelastrum microporum, Crucigenia sp, Krichneriella lunaris, Scenedesmus sp, Cryptomonas sp. In Augest, the monitor and analysis of the reservoir and its upper reaches of river were made. On the above results, we evaluate the water quality and discuss the water and soil conservation as well as the sustainable development of the reservoir.
