Abstract: The plant, nemed "Malien" in Chinense, belongs to Family Iridaceae, Genus Iris. It is distribute broadly in Northern China,Korea and the USSR. It's Latin name is very confused. The plant "Malien" which blooms violet flower is called Iris loctea Pall. var. chinensis Koidz. and the lactary flower is regarded as I. lectea Pall.;but rare. Another Latin name of "Malien" I. ensata Thunb. is a mis-taken identification. Its true plant should be "Yuchanhua" in Chinense, and. I. kaempferi Sieb. ex Lemair. is regard as a syno-nym, because it is a later name and therefore it is uneffective. There are two varieties which were nomenclatured under I. ensata Thunb., the first, var. spontaenea (Makino) Nakai, and the second, var. nortensis Makino et Nemoto, The former is regard as the synonym of the specific name, bat the latter, named "Huachangpu" in Chinense which is broadly cultivated in Japan and China is all right. I. illiensis Pol. may be regarded as I. lactea Pall. var. chinen-sis Koidz. In Tibet there is another "Malien" which blooms yellow flower. It is also a variety of "Malien", called I. lactea Pall.var. ehrysantha Y. T. Zhao, var. nov.
