Abstract: Pohlia Hedw. has been placed in three different families, the Bryaceae, the Mniaceae, and the Mielichhoferiaceae. In this paper, phylogenetic relationships of the genus were examined based on DNA sequences of the ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. Phylogenetic analysis in MP, ML and BI trees all revealed that the genus of Pohlia should not be included in Mniaceae, the species of Pohlia are the closer relative of the species of Mielichhoferiaceae, the formerly classification of sections in the genus may need to be reconsidered.

Key words: Pohlia, ITS region, phylogenetic analysis, bryaceae, mniaceae, mielichhoferiaceae
