Changbaishan Mountain is a volcano located in the eastern part of Asia between China and Korea. The lake formed from this volcanic action is called Tianchi Lake which is situated on the summit.Outflow of water from the lake forms the Tongtian River which then enters the ErdobaiRiver a short distance downstream.Collection sites throughout this area included riot only the lake and the rivers, but also a few selected sites in the valley floor on either side of the water course.Such habitats as a waterfall, moist rocks, hot springs and moist forest floor were sampled for diatoms. On September 9th and 10th, 1983, 17 diatom collections were made at nine localities. This is the first investigation of diatoms in this area. Two hundred sixty four taxa are reported representing 34 genera, including 2 new varieties, 1 new form, and one new varietal combination.

In present paper, karyotypes of two diploid taxa of Vicia cracca group from China were first reported.Their karyotypes are as follows:2n=12=2m+8sm(2SAT)+2st, 2n=14=2m+8sm(2SAT)+4st.14 chromoso-mes (2n=14) was first recorded in China. This paprer provided necessary cytological evdience for revision of taxonomic treatment on Vicia cracca. in China.

As a result of observation on 5 species and 4 subspecies of Hippophae and 5 species of Elaeagnus in China under scanning electron microscope, it was found that the characters of the culticle, trichome and stomata were different. Those characters showed that there were close evotutionary relationship among the taxas of Hippophae. The research also proved that the Hippophae and Elaeagnus are two entirly independant and natural genus.

A comprehensive comparative anatomical study of 10 species in four genera of Staphyleaceae in China was conducted to clarify the taxonomy within the family. The variable foliar anatomical features that are often diagnostic at the generic or species level include the occurrence of mucila-ginous epidermal cells, cuticle ornamentation, triehome, type of mature stomatal pattern, presence or absence and type of vein sheathing, outline of midrib vascular bundle on a cross section, type of venation, andto-oth morphology and vascularization.Especially, Tapiscia is specific in almost all organs and tissues. We support that Тахтаджян(1987) erect Tapisciaceae. There are few' differences in varying population of Tapiscia native in China, so we regard that it would be a monotypic genus.

Cultured 2 weeks in vitro on medium (SH+1-2mg/1 BA+3% sucrose) for differentiation, mature embryos of P.koraiensis were transferred to the medium without hormone (SH+3% sucrose), Adventitious buds pro-duced on epicotyls and hypocotyls continuously, The organogenesis process of adventitious buds was observed with paraffin section method. The results showed that the adventitious:bud arose from cortical cell of hypocotyls, some of them originated from.both cortical cells and epidermis cells. The whole process of adventitious buds development in culture could be.divided into four stages as follows.(1)starting of cells differentiation;(2)bud primordium;(3)shoot apex with needle primordia;(4)adventitious buds.

The vertical distribution of CO2 gradient in the artificial mixed broad-leaf tree/conifer forest on different climatic conditions (clear, cloudy, rainy) and Larix olgensis Henry physiological characteristic in its pure forest and its mixed with Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.were determined. Results indicate that the net Larix olgensis Henry Photosynthetic rate is higher in its mixed forest with Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.than that in the pure stand by 42.5%, and their diurnal patterns show bi-peak.The Larix olgensis Henry chlorophyll content in the mixed forest is higher than that in pure forest by 48.44%.Larix olgensis Henry light compensation point is 1000 Lx, and its light saturation point is 50000Lx. The diurnal processing of transpiration of Larix olgensis Henry in both the mixed forest and the pure forest show monopeak.Larix olgensis Henry transpiration rate is higher in the pure stand than that. in the mixed stand by 2.4%.Larix olgensis Henry transpiration efficiency is 4.0g/kg in the mixed stand, and 2.8g/kg in the pure stand. The contents of organic substance and mineral element of Larix olge-nsis Henry different in different kind forest. The contents of protein, fat, and total sugar of Larix olgensis Henry are respectively higher in the mixed stand than those in pure stand. The quantity of N, Mn in Laric olgensis Henry, P, K, and Mn in Fraxinus rnandshurica Rupr., and N, P, K, Mg, and Zn in soil are respectively higher in the mixed stand than those in pure stand. The P absorption of Larix olgensis Henry is faster and more in mixed forest than that in pure forest. The soil pH and soil temperature in mixed forest are higher than, those in pure forest. From all that above, the results are that mixed forest improved soil nutrient condition, and ecological environment, so improved primary productivity and biomass.
