Abstract: The present paper described a new subspecies, Prangos herderi (Regel)Herrnst. et Heyn ssp. xinjiangeniss X. Y. Chen et Q. X. Liu, which was different from the type subspecies found in USSR in its smaller and oblong-ellipsoid fruits and fewer rays. Leaves of the subspecies and of P.didyma (Regel) M. Pimen. et V. Tichomirov have been examined for their flavonoids; quercetin-3-rutinoside has been detected in the former taxon and a glucosylapigenin in the latter. It is acceptable that the genus Prangos Lindl. should include Cryplcdiscus Schrenk and some species originally placed in Cachrys L.; thus there are four species of Prangos in China, all of which occur in Xinjiang. A list of names of Chinese species of the genus was given.
