ON THE PROBLEMS OF THE CLASSFICATION OF CROTALARIA IN CHINA

Abstract: The plants of genus Crotalaria containing about 550 species throughout the tropics and subtropics. It is mainly occurred 40 species and 3 varieties in the southern provinces of China. This paper deals with the problems of systematic classifica-tion of Crotalaria based on morphological and chemical analyses.A historical review has also provided. The critical evidences of evolutional series are as follows:1) Beak of the keel is torsional represented more advan-ccing characters. 2) Calyx-lobes subequal with 5-lobed precedes those with bilabiated. 3) The conspicuous stipules precedes that minute ones or absent. 4) Pod in the shape of cylindric precede those of oblong or globose. 5) Many seeds precedes few or two seeds. According to those account the generic taxa have been sug-gested as 5 sections. The section Calycinae is furthermore di-vided into 4 series. Their interrelations and differences are described. The anther also report two new species from Yunnan and Guangdong (Hainan) Province.
